Terms of service
Last updated: 2026-06-08
These terms govern your use of fluentwith. By signing in, you accept them. If you don't, don't use the service. Privacy is covered separately in our privacy policy.
The service
fluentwith is an AI-powered English conversation and pronunciation practice tool. It uses third-party AI providers (Anthropic for chat, Groq for speech-to-text) to generate replies, transcripts, and feedback. The service is provided on a best-effort basis with no guarantee of availability, accuracy, or specific learning outcomes.
Your account
You sign in with Google - we don't accept email/password accounts. You're responsible for keeping your Google account secure. One person per account; sharing is not allowed. We may suspend or terminate accounts that show signs of abuse, automation, or account-sharing.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the digital-consent age in your country, e.g., 16 in some EU member states). If you're under that age, don't sign up.
Acceptable use
- Don't use the service to abuse, harass, threaten, or harm anyone.
- Don't attempt to extract our prompts, scrape content programmatically, reverse-engineer the AI behavior, or circumvent rate-limits.
- Don't feed content you don't have the right to share - other people's private conversations, copyrighted material verbatim, confidential or classified information, personal data of third parties.
- Don't use the service for high-stakes decisions: legal advice, medical diagnoses, financial planning, hiring decisions. It's a practice tool, not a professional service.
- Don't resell access, repackage outputs, or build a competing product using our outputs.
- Don't generate content that violates Anthropic's or Groq's usage policies (illegal acts, CSAM, weapons, malware, election manipulation, etc.). Their policies apply through us.
We may remove content, suspend access, or terminate accounts that violate these rules without prior notice if the violation is serious.
Content ownership
Your content - the words you say or type during practice belong to you. You grant us a limited license to process them as needed to provide the service: store them in your account, forward them to AI providers for replies and analysis, generate drills, render reports.
AI outputs - AI-generated replies, reports, and drills are produced for your personal use. Outputs may be similar or identical for different users (the AI doesn't produce uniquely copyrightable work for each prompt). You may use them however you like for personal practice; you may not rebrand them or redistribute them as a product.
Our content - the app itself, our system prompts, the rule taxonomy, the curated reading passages, the drill templates, the brand, and the design are ours. You can't copy or redistribute them without permission.
Embedded YouTube content (Video practice)
Video practice embeds third-party YouTube videos via the YouTube IFrame Player API. When you watch an embedded video, your interaction with that player - and any data Google collects from it - is governed by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. By using Video practice, you agree to those documents in addition to ours.
Non-affiliation. fluentwith is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to YouTube, Google LLC, or any video creator whose content appears via embed. The YouTube name, logo, and player are trademarks of Google LLC. We embed videos under the standard public-embed permissions YouTube grants for embeddable content; we make no claim of ownership over the embedded videos themselves, and we do not host them.
Curated library. The curated clips that appear in our library are publicly-uploaded videos selected for educational fit. Curators (channel owners) can disable embedding at any time on YouTube's side; if that happens, the clip will silently stop working in our library and we will replace it on our next content update.
User-pasted URLs. When you paste a YouTube URL, you represent that it points to a video that is publicly available and embeddable. We do not verify ownership of the content; we rely on YouTube's own embed-permission flags. We are not responsible for the content of any video you choose to practice with.
Saved vocabulary retention
When you tap a word or sentence in Video practice (or save a Word of the Day), we store the following in your account: the surface form, the dictionary headword, the part of speech and pronunciation, our cached definition, the surrounding cue text, and a reference to the source video or curated content. This data persists indefinitely while your account is active so that saved vocabulary is available for review whenever you come back.
You can delete individual saved items at any time from /app/saved. Deleting your account (via the account page) removes all saved items along with the rest of your data within the timelines specified in the privacy policy.
AI accuracy disclaimer
The AI partner is good but not perfect. It will sometimes:
- Get facts wrong (including about English grammar) or hallucinate plausible-but-incorrect information.
- Miss subtleties of accent, register, or culture.
- Produce unhelpful or generic feedback occasionally.
- Mishear words during transcription, especially for rare names, technical terms, or strong accents.
Don't rely on the AI's corrections as authoritative for high-stakes situations. For exams, formal qualifications, or important communication, verify with a human expert. We don't guarantee the AI's output is correct, complete, or up-to-date.
Service availability
We aim for high uptime but make no guarantees. The service depends on third-party APIs (Google for sign-in, Groq for transcription, Anthropic for AI) - when they're down, we're partially or fully down. We may also intentionally take the service offline for maintenance, usually with notice when possible.
We may change, restrict, or discontinue features at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
Pricing and billing
Today fluentwith is free to use. We may introduce paid tiers in the future; if we do, existing users will be notified via email at least 14 days before any change takes effect, and any data you generated under the free tier remains accessible (or exportable). We won't turn an existing free feature into a paid one without that notice period.
Termination
By you - delete your account anytime from the account page. Your data is hard-deleted within 30 days; you can restore by signing back in within those 30 days.
By us - we may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. We'll notify you when we can; in serious cases (abuse, security risk) we may act immediately. After termination, your data is hard-deleted within 30 days unless legal hold requires longer retention.
Limits of liability
fluentwith is provided "as-is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement).
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages - including but not limited to loss of profits, business opportunity, data, goodwill, or substitute services - even if we've been advised of the possibility.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is capped at the greater of (a) USD 50 or (b) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits; in those, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of (a) your violation of these terms, (b) your violation of someone else's rights (privacy, IP, etc.), or (c) content you submitted to the service.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved by arbitration seated in Bengaluru, India, conducted under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, by a sole arbitrator we and you mutually appoint. Language: English.
EU/UK consumers retain any non-waivable rights granted by their local law (e.g., the right to bring claims in their country of residence under consumer-protection rules).
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes (governing law, liability caps, content rules) will be communicated via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the most recent version.
